New Delhi, Jan 20: CJ Chavda, a senior Congress MLA from Gujarat, announced his resignation from the Assembly on Friday, citing his displeasure with the party’s stance on the Ram Mandir.
A State Assembly official stated that the three-time MLA from the Vijapur constituency tendered his resignation to Speaker Shankar Chaudhary in Gandhinagar this morning.
Congress’s approach upsetting: Chavda
Upon resigning from Congress, CJ Chavda stated, “I have resigned from Congress. I have worked in Congress for 25 years. The reason is that when the people of the whole country are joyous because of the Pran Pratishtha at Ram Mandir and there is a wave of joy among the people, instead of being a part of that wave of joy, the approach that this party (Congress) has shown is the reason for being upset.”
“We should support the works and policies of the two huge leaders of Gujarat PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. But I would not have been able to do that while being in Congress. Hence, I resigned,” he further stated.
Speculations of joining BJP
The number of Congress members in the 182-member Gujarat assembly has dropped to 15 following Chavda’s exit. It’s anticipated that he’ll join BJP. But as of yet, there’s no confirmation. Chirag Patel, a Congress MLA for Khambhat in the Anand district, had previously quit from the Assembly as well.
In the meantime, the Ram Temple’s ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ritual is scheduled for January 22. The temple is anticipated to be accessible to the public from the succeeding day onward.
