Jamshedpur, Sept 11: Suspecting Surya Hansda was killed in a fake encounter, hundreds of BJP activists protested the alleged extrajudicial killing by staging a dharna in front of the Jamshedpur Collectorate building on Thursday.
Hazaribagh MP, Manish Jaiswal, who led the protest, has demanded a CBI enquiry into the killing of Hansda and has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Karn Satyarthi in connection with the demand.
The memorandum was addressed to the President Droupadi Murmu and the Jharkhand Governor.

The slain Surya Hansda was a key BJP functionary and would work for the cause of tribals. He would run a crusade against the conversion of tribals into other religions and would fight for the protection of tribals’ land in the state.
The tribal leader was killed in the alleged police encounter in Godda district in August. He was shot while the Shradh rituals of Shibu Soren were in progress.
“For the sake of power, the chief minister Hemant Soren has turned anti-tribal. It has to be unravelled after all that under whose influence Surya Hansda was killed. It is the CBI which can only detect the case,” said Manish Jaiswal while addressing a gathering of the party workers at the venue of the sit-in.
The Hazaribagh MP also protested against the acquisition of tribals’ farm land for the construction of RIMS-2 at Nagri.

“There are vast stretches of government land in the Ranchi district. The proposed RIMS-2 can be set up on the government land. Why are the tribals being unsettled from their ancestors’ land,” quipped the BJP leader, demanding the farm land acquisition be stopped immediately.
The BJP activists lodged their protest against Surya Hansda’s killing at Ghatsila and Jamshedpur Block offices also and highlighted Hemant Soren’s anti-tribal activities.
Jamshedpur MP, Bidyut Baran Mahto, led the protest at Ghatsila.
