Dhanbad, March 21: Sanjiv Kumar Singh, an alumnus of IIT ISM Dhanbad, has been appointed as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal from the Ministry of Mines for Singh’s appointment, as confirmed by IIT ISM officials. Singh has been serving as Director (Mining) at HCL.
A Distinguished Career in Mining
Sanjiv Kumar Singh, who holds a B.Tech degree (1987) and an M.Tech degree in Open Cast Mine Planning (1987-89) from IIT ISM Dhanbad, began his professional career in 1987 at Coal India Limited (CIL) in Ranchi, serving as a Junior Executive Engineer.

Over the years, he advanced through the ranks, becoming an Executive Engineer in 1988 and a Senior Executive Engineer by 1992. Singh served at CIL’s Ranchi and Nagpur offices until his departure in 2004.

Leadership Roles at NTPC and HCL
In March 2008, Singh joined NTPC as Senior Manager (Mining) in Uttar Pradesh, where he played a significant role in enhancing mining operations. He was promoted to Additional General Manager (Mining) in 2012 and held that position for over nine years before becoming General Manager in January 2022.
Singh’s tenure at NTPC was marked by his expertise in mining strategy, cost optimization, and operational efficiency. In March 2022, he took on the role of Director (Mining) at HCL, where he made significant contributions to reviving dormant mines and incorporating advanced technologies to boost operational sustainability and efficiency.
