Dhanbad, March 26: IIT ISM Dhanbad’s B.Tech third-year Mechanical Engineering students, Aaromal S Ram and Nitu Kumari, secured second place in the prestigious Bajaj TORQ national competition, which concluded at Bajaj Auto headquarters in Pune.
The duo competed against over 6,000 participants from top institutions across the country, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
Journey Through the Competition
The competition consisted of three rigorous rounds: a quiz, a problem-solving challenge, and a final presentation. Aaromal and Nitu successfully navigated all stages, emerging as one of the 62 finalists in the TORQ and OHM categories.

Their innovative solution—an adjustable footrest for motorcycles—impressed the expert jury, securing them the runner-up position in their assigned problem statement category.

Recognition and Rewards
In acknowledgment of their outstanding achievement, Aaromal and Nitu were awarded a trophy, a certificate, and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh.
Their accomplishment reflects their dedication and technical acumen, which were further honed under the mentorship at the Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI) at IIT ISM Dhanbad.
Congratulating the students, IIT ISM Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra highlighted their success as a testament to the institution’s innovation-driven ecosystem. “We are immensely proud of Aaromal and Nitu for their outstanding performance on such a prestigious platform,” he said.
The Bajaj TORQ competition challenges young engineers with real-world automotive problems, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their creativity and technical skills.
