Indian Men’s volleyball team announces open selection trials for 2024 Asian Championship

Bokaro, April 3: The 2024 Asian Volleyball Championship is gearing up for its upcoming open selection trials, overseen by a duly constituted selection committee. These trials are intended for the U18, U20, and Senior Men categories.

The Indian men’s volleyball team is inviting applications from enthusiastic players who wish to join their training program and compete in the Asian Championship.

Jaideep Sarkar, the head coach of the Indian men’s volleyball team and an international coach for the 2022–23 Asian Games in Hangzhou, disclosed that the tryouts will take place from April 8th to the 12th, 2024, at the Sports Authority of India South Centre, SAI Netaji Subhash Southern Centre in Bengaluru.

Due to the absence of a fully operational Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) and its affiliated state units, an ad hoc committee has been established by the Indian government and the Indian Olympic Association to oversee volleyball in India.

Olympic Movement

Jaideep Sarkar, representing the Indian Olympic Community’s efforts to promote the Olympic Movement worldwide, stated that interested individuals in the aforementioned categories could apply directly to the VFI Ad-hoc Committee and participate in the open trials if they meet the necessary criteria.

He emphasised that all participants must submit a scanned copy of the completed registration form. Those with a passion for volleyball are encouraged to sign up. Additionally, all participants must provide a valid passport, five passport-sized photographs, and a photo ID showing their residential address. The passport must include both the original and a self-attested copy.

Age requirement for U-18 players

Decisions made by the selection committee are final. The age requirement for U-18 players is to be born on or after January 1, 2007, while for U-20 players it is on or after January 1, 2005. Participants are responsible for all expenses (fare, accommodation, transportation, etc.). They are advised to arrive at the venue at 9:00 am on the specified dates, appropriately dressed for sports.

The final roster for the Championship team will be determined after further evaluations of their potential for success. Jaideep also mentioned that Chetan, the liaison officer, can be contacted via email or in person for additional information, assistance with registration, or to lodge complaints.
