Ranchi, Dec 18: BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Deepak Prakash has served a legal notice to Dainik Bhaskar, a local vernacular daily, for allegedly publishing fake news.

The notice has asked the newspaper to withdraw such fake and scandalous news items by publishing the same and by tendering an apology within three days of receipt of this legal notice; failing which appropriate legal action, including prosecuting for civil and criminal proceedings, shall be initiated.

The legal notice served by advocate Rahul Kumar on behalf of Deepak Prakash to the editor-in-chief as well as the reporter of the said newspaper has pointed out that a report was published on December 18 in which it alleged that a deal between Niranjan Kumar Sinha and Vivek Kumar took place at Delhi residence of Deepak Prakash for Mahagama Assembly seat ticket for Rs 24 lakh.

The report alleged that Niranjan had paid Rs 12 lakh to Vivek at the residence of Deepak Prakash, and the balance amount was given at Khukhri Guest House.

When Niranjan did not get the ticket, he asked for returning money and even issued a legal notice to Vivek in this regard.

Advocate Rahul Kumar has also pointed out in legal notice that as per published report both Niranjan Kumar and Vivek Kumar have admitted there had been some dispute between them in which Deepak Prakash had no role. None has uttered a word about the involvement of Deepak Prakash in it.

“However, the news item has been presented with an alarming and sensational heading as if Deepak Prakash was involved in it”, said the legal notice.

The legal notice has charged that an attempt has been made to damage the reputation of the MP by dragging his name in that dispute with which he is not connected. “As part of the news item, a distorted and altered version of the MP has also been published”, said the notice.

The notice said Deepak Prakash, in strong words, also denied any such meeting at his residence and the absence of any evidence. Such reckless and cooked-up news items with sensational headings should not be published, the notice added.
