Ranchi, Nov 4: A dramatic personal dispute has led to official repercussions for Majhiaon Circle Officer (CO) Pramod Kumar, who has been suspended by the Jharkhand government just three days after his wife allegedly caught him with another woman at his government residence in Garhwa district.

The suspension order was issued by Chintu Doraiburu, Joint Secretary of the Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Official Language Department, following a detailed report and charge sheet submitted by Garhwa Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Yadav. Kumar has been accused of misbehaviour, use of abusive language, threats, drinking on duty, and irregular financial dealings.

During his suspension, Kumar’s headquarters will remain at the South Chotanagpur Divisional Office in Ranchi, pending the outcome of a departmental inquiry.

High-voltage confrontation at government residence

The suspension follows a high-voltage confrontation, when Kumar’s wife, Shyama Rani, reportedly caught him in a compromising situation with another woman at their official residence in Majhiaon.

According to eyewitnesses, an enraged Shyama Rani locked the house from outside, preventing the officer from leaving. Police and senior officials arrived soon after, but tensions ran high. Amid the commotion, the CO allegedly escaped by jumping from the roof.

Police detained the woman present at the scene and handed her over to the Garhwa Women’s Police Station before she was later released to her family.

Speaking to reporters, Shyama Rani said she had long suspected her husband of infidelity. “I caught him red-handed today and will seek justice,” she said.

Family and police statement

Shyama Rani’s father, a former Member of Parliament, condemned the incident and called for appropriate legal action, while urging that the matter be resolved lawfully. Other relatives described it as a domestic dispute, saying they would follow the legal process.

Police confirmed that no immediate complaint was filed on the day of the incident, but the matter was treated as a family dispute. “Further legal action will follow after a formal complaint is received,” said a senior police officer.

FIR, allegations, and official probe

A few days later, Shyama Rani filed an FIR at Majhiaon police station, alleging that since joining the civil service through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) in 2020, her husband had maintained multiple illicit relationships. She also accused him of domestic violence, extortion, and seizing her jewellery, besides demanding ₹50 lakh from her father.

Officials in Ranchi said the government’s disciplinary action factored in both the administrative complaints and the ongoing police investigation.

“The state government maintains zero tolerance for misconduct in public service,” a senior official said. “Appropriate action will follow once the inquiries are complete.”
