Daltonganj, August 23: What does a mammoth crowd mean at a public function, especially when the chief minister is to address it?

A tremendous crowd offers both pain and pleasure. This was witnessed in Hemant Soren’s visit to Chiyanki in Daltonganj on Thursday.

Traffic chaos and administrative challenges

Daltonganj witnessed a significant influx of people during Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s visit to Chiyanki on Thursday. The massive crowd caused severe traffic disruptions, overwhelming the town’s infrastructure. Traffic in the area became chaotic as the town struggled to manage the arrival of approximately 100,000 people in a single direction.

Garhwa DC Shekhar Jamuar and Garhwa SP Deepak Kr Pandey were notably delayed due to the traffic, arriving just 15 minutes before the chief minister. In contrast, Latehar DC Garima Singh arrived well in advance and was the first at the venue, as it was a divisional program requiring the presence of all three DCs.

Event management and media coverage

Extensive efforts were made to manage the crowd and ensure smooth operations at the event. The Palamu administration implemented measures to prevent chaos, and civil and police officials worked diligently to maintain order.

The media faced challenges due to the large crowd, with some reporters struggling to find space.

Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesan intervened to assist the media, personally arranging seating and ensuring their comfort despite initial difficulties.

The press seating was organised in segments due to the high number of attendees, with journalists seated in batches separated by ramps that helped manage the flow.

Security measures and event highlights

Security was tight but not obstructive, with Assistant Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh and SDPO Bishrampur seen patrolling without breaks. Notably, a ramp was set up not for political display but to allow the Chief Minister to survey the crowd.

Palamu DC Shashi Ranjan frequently walked the ramp to ensure all seats were filled.

The event also saw the prompt restoration of a separated child to her mother amidst the large gathering.

Medininagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Md Jawed Hussain and his team ensured cleanliness throughout the event.

Despite the humid weather and turbulence during his helicopter ride, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was visibly impressed by the turnout. He took a ramp walk, as suggested by DC Shashi Ranjan, to appreciate the scale of the crowd.

The anticipation of rain led to efforts to keep attendees in their seats, and the event was described as a success due to meticulous planning and execution.

DC Shashi Ranjan emphasized the success of the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyyan Samman Yojna.

Palamu DC Shashi Ranjan read out data of his district Palamu only leaving two DCs, Garima Singh of Latehar and Shekhar Jamuar of Garhwa, wondering as to why their districts were so cold shelved.

CM’s address and future plans

School education minister Baidyanath Ram was thrice ‘interrupted’ by a lady official to cut short his speech which was ignored by the minister. Baidyanath Ram took a long time to finish his speech.

Another minister Mithilesh Thakur who has a reputation for holding mike for long didn’t do any different in this Chiyanki function again.

During his speech, Chief Minister Hemant Soren reflected on his appearance and criticized opposition leaders. He attributed his new look to his recent incarceration, which he claimed was a result of opposition machinations. “Did you ever see me like this before  what I look like now?”

“Vipakch kay pas dost judge hai aur bara wakil. Hamari Sarkar ke har kaam ko asamwedhanik kra deta hai Vipakch,” said Hemant Soren.

Chief minister Hemant Soren took potshots at leaders of Assam, MP, Chhattisgarh who are steering the Vipakch here when the Vipakch has failed to manage things on its own here.

Soren also responded to the opposition’s Yuva Aakrosh rally, promising job creation and recruitment drives.

“Ajeeb halat hai. Vipakch nay hi yuva ko gart may dala hai. Hum to noukri deyn rahey hain. Utpaad aur sipahi bharti shuru ho gi jald hi.”

Secretary Manoj Kumar of the Women and Child Development Department acknowledged the unprecedented scale of the gathering, which left a lasting impression on those present. “The gathering that I saw here, I swear I, never in my life saw it so mammoth,” he said.
