Ranchi, March 21: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s decision to increase Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation to 42% has been welcomed by Jharkhand Pradesh Congress OBC Department Chairman and State Office In-Charge, Abhilash Sahu. He has also urged the Jharkhand government to enhance OBC reservation in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s Advocacy for OBC Rights

Sahu highlighted that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has consistently championed OBC rights. He also recalled that K. Raju, former National Coordinator for SC, ST, OBC, and Minority Congress, and the current Jharkhand Congress in-charge, had raised this issue at the national level.

Congratulating Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and K. Raju for fulfilling their commitment in Telangana, Sahu stated that the Congress government has honored its promise to the people. He emphasized that the Telangana government’s decision reflects Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to OBC rights.

Call for Similar Measures in Jharkhand

Sahu reiterated Rahul Gandhi’s earlier statement that a Congress-led central government would remove the 50% reservation cap. He pointed out that this promise was fulfilled in Karnataka and has now been implemented in Telangana. He described Telangana’s move as a “revolutionary step” towards social justice, breaking the 50% reservation barrier.

He urged the Jharkhand government to take similar action, stating that expanding the reservation framework would allow for a comprehensive analysis of different communities’ social and economic conditions. This, in turn, would enable the formulation of policies ensuring overall development and social equity.
