SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, June 7: Doctors from Jharkhand have achieved unprecedented prominence at the national level, securing the highest number of senior positions in various committees of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over the past five months.

A total of eight doctors from the state have been nominated to key roles within the IMA’s national body — a representation unmatched by any other state in the country.

Leading National Positions

Dr. D. Tiwari from Deoghar has been appointed as IMA National Vice-President (Headquarters), while Dr. Jaideep Kumar from Ranchi has taken on the role of Co-Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA).

In addition, Ranchi-based doctors Dr. B.P. Kashyap and Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh have been inducted into the IMA National Standing Committee for Legal Affairs. Dr. R.N. Prasad from Deoghar has been elected as National Vice-President of the IMA Medical Students Network (MSN).

Dual Responsibilities for Two Jharkhand Doctors

For the first time, two doctors from Jharkhand have been entrusted with dual responsibilities in IMA’s national committees.

Veteran plastic surgeon Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh of Ranchi, who previously served as IMA National Vice-President in 2005-06, has now been included in the Advisory Board of the Journal of the Indian Medical Association (JIMA), in addition to his role on the Legal Cell Committee.

Meanwhile, Dr. R.N. Prasad of Deoghar has been appointed to the IMA Disaster Management Committee alongside his position as Vice-President of the MSN Standing Committee.

Expanding Influence in Key Committees

Dr. Gauri Shankar of Deoghar and AIIMS Deoghar Director Dr. Saurabh Varshney have also secured important roles, being appointed to the IMA National Standing Committee and the IMA Tobacco Control Committee, respectively.

Dr. Gauri Shankar, who also serves as Secretary of IMA Deoghar Chapter, is widely regarded as one of the most active members of the Jharkhand chapter.

Dr. Vikash Kumar of Ranchi continues to make his mark as well, having been selected as Chief Advisor of the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) for the third consecutive year. He also serves as the State President of the IMA Jharkhand Junior Doctors Network (JDN).

Recognition for State Leadership

A senior IMA member from Bihar remarked that although Jharkhand is a relatively young state at just 20 years old, it remains at the forefront nationally in implementing IMA programmes. “This strong participation and leadership justifies Jharkhand’s significant representation in the national body,” the member said.

The credit for this success, he noted, goes to the dynamic leadership of IMA Jharkhand President Dr. A.K. Singh, Secretary Dr. Pradeep Kumar Singh, Treasurer Dr. B.P. Kashyap, Coordinator Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh, Convener Dr. Bimlesh Singh, and other dedicated members of the state team.
