Ranchi, July 18: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday heard a contempt petition related to the delay in holding urban local body elections in the state. The petition was filed by outgoing municipal councillor Roshni Khalkho.
During the hearing, the court expressed strong displeasure over the state government’s approach and directed the Chief Secretary to appear in person at the next hearing.

The matter was heard by Justice Ananda Sen, with advocate Vinod Singh representing the petitioner.

The court, in strong words, stated that the state government is bypassing judicial orders and strangling the rule of law in the state.
The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for July 25, 2025.
