Ranchi, July 26: The ED today arrested Kamlesh Kumar, a journalist-turned-land dealer, after interrogating him for over six hours.

According to ED sources, Kamlesh was arrested at 8 pm after he failed to give satisfactory answers to the alleged scam committed by him during the transaction of a large parcel of land in the Kanke area. Earlier, he appeared before the ED after having skipped at least five summonses.

Kamlesh locations were raided on June 21

Notably, the ED raided the locations of land dealer Kamlesh Kumar on June 21 and recovered more than Rs 1 crore in cash besides 100 live cartridges.

The agency also recovered several other incriminating documents from his Astor Green apartment and other locations in Ranchi.

After the raid, the ED wrote a letter to the DGP demanding action on the entire matter. A case was also registered against Kamlesh under the Arms Act in Ranchi’s Kanke police station.

Kamlesh is accused of creating fake documents to acquire land worth several crores and has acquired huge property during the past 10 years. Kamlesh, according to sources, was operating under the protection of many senior officials in the administration and police as well.

Shekhar Kushwaha, who is associated with the syndicate that grabs land by making fake documents and was arrested by the ED on June 12, had given information about Kamlesh Kumar grabbing land at many places in the Birsa Agricultural University Kanke area with the help of fake land documents.
