Daltonganj, Jan 26: Ten schoolchildren were injured today in Humbu, Latehar district, when the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a pickup van.
Sources said that the children were returning home after attending the Republic Day function at their private school.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav stated that the accident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Herhunj police station when the pickup van collided with the autorickshaw carrying the schoolchildren.

Residents, along with the police, rushed the injured children to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Balumath.
Dr. Surender Kumar of the Balumath CHC, who treated the injured, said that five of the ten children sustained head injuries. Four others suffered fractures in their limbs, while one child had only minor injuries.

Dr. Kumar also mentioned that a CT scan is essential for head injury cases. Following repeated requests from the children’s parents, nine of the injured children, along with the autorickshaw driver, were referred to RIMS Ranchi for further treatment.
The condition of the two children remains critical, Dr. Kumar added.
