Jharkhand News: 5 new colleges of Birsa Agricultural University get ICAR accreditation

Ranchi, Feb 16: The National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board of ICAR has granted accreditation to five new colleges under Birsa Agricultural University (BAU). This decision was based on the report submitted by ICAR’s Peer Review Team and was approved at the Board’s 38th meeting held on January 27 at ICAR headquarters in New Delhi.

List of Accredited Colleges

The newly accredited colleges are:

  • Tilka Manjhi Agriculture College, Godda
  • Rabindra Nath Tagore Agriculture College, Deoghar
  • Agriculture College, Garhwa
  • Horticulture College, Khuntpani, Chaibasa
  • College of Agricultural Engineering, Ranchi

These institutions were established during the 2017-18 academic year.

Benefits of Accreditation

This recognition will provide several advantages, including:
✅ Eligibility for graduates to apply for postgraduate programs at the country’s top agricultural universities.
✅ Increased employability for students.
✅ Eligibility for ICAR development grants to improve teaching facilities and student amenities.

ICAR’s Directives to BAU

The Board has issued the following instructions to BAU:

  • Upload the self-study report of these colleges on the BAU website and inform the Board.
  • Maintain the required faculty strength, along with technical and support staff.
  • Seek prior approval before increasing the number of sanctioned admission seats.

A Milestone for Vice-Chancellor Dr. S.C. Dubey

This accreditation is considered a major achievement for Vice-Chancellor Dr. S.C. Dubey, who has just completed one year in office. He congratulated the BAU fraternity on this success and expressed gratitude to the state government and the Governor’s Secretariat for their continuous support and guidance.

Peer Review Team’s Inspection

ICAR’s Peer Review Team, led by Dr. M.K. Naik, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, Karnataka, inspected from November 30 to December 2.

During their visit, the team:
🔹 Inspected hostels, libraries, and laboratories at BAU and its affiliated colleges.
🔹 Interacted with teachers, students, alumni, and farmers to assess infrastructure and amenities.
🔹 Submitted a report and recommendations to ICAR for consideration.
