Ranchi, May 20: Senior BJP leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren announced on Tuesday that the party will boycott the upcoming Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting in Ranchi on Wednesday, citing the state government’s disregard for established customs.

Traditionally, the TAC is chaired by the Governor of Jharkhand, but the current JMM-led administration has ignored this practice, prompting BJP’s decision to stay away.

In a post on X, Soren criticized the committee for failing to deliver meaningful outcomes despite being tasked with addressing tribal issues and advising the government.

He pointed out that although the ruling party holds a majority in the TAC, many pressing concerns of the tribal community remain unresolved, reflecting what he called the government’s indecisiveness.

Highlighting his long-standing commitment to social causes, especially anti-drug efforts, Soren objected to the meeting’s first agenda, which involves granting licenses for liquor shops and bars in tribal-dominated villages.

He expressed deep concern that this move could drag Jharkhand’s youth into drug abuse, reinforcing his refusal to participate in the meeting.
