SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Dec 21: In a heart-wrenching incident, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Dhanbad stepped in to rehabilitate an infant girl from a minority community, who had been abandoned by her family in a private hospital in Dhanbad.

The infant’s mother, a resident of Giridih district, tragically passed away following the child’s birth at Asari Hospital in Dhanbad.

Hospital doctor alerted CWC

Due to the infant’s critical condition, her family took the mother’s body back to Giridih and left the newborn in the hospital.

Dr. Swati, a doctor at Asarfi Hospital, took immediate action by caring for the infant in the ICU. She alerted CWC Chairman Uttam Mukherjee, who promptly visited the hospital to ensure the child received the proper care and treatment.

Intervention by DLSA and CWC

Upon receiving the information, DLSA Secretary and Civil Judge Rakesh Roshan also arrived at the hospital and instructed the medical staff to provide the best possible treatment for the infant.

Chairman Uttam Mukherjee of the Dhanbad CWC informed Puja Sinha, his counterpart at the Giridih CWC, about the situation. Puja Sinha then consulted the infant’s family and persuaded them to accept the child.

On Friday, the infant’s father arrived at the Dhanbad hospital and, following the official procedures, took the girl back.

Members of the Dhanbad CWC, including Dr. Prem Kumar, Mamta Arora, and Sandhya Sinha, conducted counselling sessions with the family members before formally handing over the child to the Giridih CWC for rehabilitation.
