Daltonganj, May 6: Traders and businessmen in Daltonganj are urging local authorities to conduct regular police security audits at wholesale jewellery shops popularly called jewellery shops, similar to the daily inspections carried out at bank branches.

Just as police visit banks to assess security and discuss potential issues with bank staff, jewellers are calling for the same level of attention to be given to their establishments for enhanced safety.

This issue had cropped up in the interactive session of the SP Reeshma Ramesan with the traders and businessmen on Tuesday in Daltonganj.

SP Assures Action Amid Limited Police Resources

Reeshma Ramesan told this correspondent, “We have a limited fleet of cops. And that we are to manipulate for security visits to the banks. Now there is a demand for similar such police visits to prominent jewellery shops. It will be done.”

SP further said that traders and businessmen do install CCTV cameras. These cameras are ‘focused within the shops more than outside.’

CCTV cameras should be more outside the shops to view the entry and exit of people as in the guise of a customer, criminals do try to pass themselves as a prospective buyer.

Appeal for Support to Ease Summer Strain on Traffic Cops

The businessmen and traders conceded the arduous jobs carried out by traffic cops in such a summer here where even a 5-minute standing in the Sun is a health hazard.

Traffic cops spend larger hours in the streets regulating traffic without any shed for them to relax when the traffic is not so acute and intense.

SP Reeshma Ramesan told this correspondent that, “I advised the traders and businessmen to do something for the traffic cops so that these humans get some rest under the shed, saving themselves from the overexposure to the Sun.”

“Traders and businessmen should show magnanimity of heart if they offer some heat beat juice to traffic cops to overcome the summer stress and exhaustion. The traders and businessmen have nodded in affirmation,” SP added.
