Dhanbad, February 17: A class X student, Rajkumar Das (17), committed suicide allegedly after an altercation with some boys in Saraswati Idol immersion procession in Kochkuli colony under Saraidhela police station.

The victim’s father, Kishore Kumar Das, said that his son, Rajkumar Das, had gone in procession of Saraswati idol immersion of the colony on Friday evening, where half a dozen colony boys thrashed him with an iron rod and stick. After getting information, he reached the spot and brought him to the house.

“He looked frustrated and went directly to his room and locked the door from the inside. He did not take a meal. When he did not come out after some time, we knocked on the door, which was locked inside. When we peeked through the window, he was found hanging with a rope,” said Kishore Kumar Das.

Family members immediately took him away to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

At night, he lodged a written complaint to Saraidhela police station. The victim’s father named six students, alleging that they beat up Rajkumar Das badly in a row during the Saraswati idol immersion procession on Friday evening.

The Saraidhela police station officer in charge said that the body had been sent for post-mortem at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH). After proper investigation, action would be taken.
