Dhanbad, Jan 6: Dhanbad Railway Division, part of the East Central Railway (ECR) zone, has maintained its position as the leading division in freight loading and revenue generation from freight loading among the 257 railway divisions in India. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Kamal Kishore Sinha shared this achievement while addressing the media.
From April to December 2024-25, Dhanbad Division recorded the highest freight loading at 142.92 million tonnes (MT), surpassing other divisions such as second-placed Bilaspur (139.05 MT), third-placed Khurda Road (119.56 MT), and fourth-placed Chakradharpur (114.81 MT). This milestone reflects a consistent lead by Dhanbad Division in freight operations.
Year-on-Year Growth in Freight Loading
The division also reported a growth of 2.57 MT compared to the same period in 2022-23. In comparison, Bilaspur Division registered a growth of 12.05 MT, Khurda Road Division 1.89 MT, and Chakradharpur Division 5.68 MT.

In December 2024, Bilaspur Division outperformed Dhanbad in monthly freight loading, recording 16.99 MT compared to Dhanbad’s 16.97 MT. Khurda Road and Chakradharpur Divisions followed with 14.73 MT and 12.99 MT, respectively.
Highest Revenue Earnings from Freight
Dhanbad Railway Division also secured the top position in revenue earnings from freight operations, recording ₹19,957.31 crores between April and December 2024-25. This places it ahead of Bilaspur Division (₹17,725.53 crores), Khurda Road Division (₹11,339.73 crores), and Chakradharpur Division (₹10,532.94 crores).
In December 2024 alone, Dhanbad recorded the highest monthly revenue of ₹2,324.84 crores, followed by Bilaspur with ₹2,107.22 crores, Khurda Road with ₹1,324.84 crores, and Chakradharpur with ₹1,139.66 crores.

DRM Kamal Kishore Sinha highlighted that the division’s outstanding performance reflects the robust operational strategies and efficient management of freight services. This achievement further cements Dhanbad Division’s role as a key contributor to the Indian Railways’ freight operations and revenue generation.
