Drama being staged by IIT ISM students

Dhanbad, March 21: The 90-minute play staged by members of the Drama Club of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on Chakravvuh of Mahabharat at the institute’s Open Air Theatre mesmerized the audience, especially faculty members, on Wednesday late evening.

Though all participants of the drama team executed their roles brilliantly, the performance of Aaryan Bhardwaj (who played the role of Abhimanyu), Nikhil Jaiswal (who acted as Lord Krishna, Baibhav Sharan Singh ( as Dhuryodhan) and Ajay Kumar ( who played the role of Dronacharya) cornered high appreciation from gathering.

The play Chakravvuh,  written by Laxminarayan Mishra, was part of the 72nd production of aBhAy Dramatics Club. Club alumni Anurag Kumar inaugurated the drama.

Prof Chiranjeev Kumar, head of the department of computer science, and Pankaj Jain, Assistant Professor in the department of mineral and metallurgical engineering, who witnessed the play as guests, lauded the performance of students, especially Aaryan Bhardwaj, who played the role of Abhimanyu, and Nikhil Jaiswal, who acted as Lord Krishna.

A senior faculty member of the institution said that he had gone in the evening for a few minutes to witness the play, but the performance and show displayed by the student team ( Club members) compelled me to sit there until the end.

Laxminarayan Mishra was a popular Hindi playwright

Club Coordinator Saumya Kumar said that the author of Chakravvuh   Laxminarayan Mishra (1903) was a popular Hindi playwright. Apart from this play, his other famous plays including Ashoka (1926), Sanyasi (1930), Rakshas Ka Mandir (1931), Muktiya Rahasya (1932), Sindur Ki Holi (1932), Garuda Dhwaj (1945), Vatsaraj (1950), Chkratyub (1953), Samaj Ka Stambh and Gudiya Ka Ghar are frequently played by students in schools and colleges.

“We have meticulously selected the drama as we wanted to let the audience experience the timeless tale of Mahabharat,”  said Manvi Goya , club coordinator.
