Jamshedpur, Sept 20: In a major breakthrough, police today arrested a builder Naseem Sheikh, who had been absconding in connection with a large-scale fraud and embezzlement case registered at Azadnagar police station.

Acting on a tip-off, a special police team led by Patamda DSP apprehended Sheikh on Saturday.

The case began after complainant Aisa Parveen alleged that Sheikh, along with his associates, duped her of  Rs 28.7 lakh on the pretext of arranging land and flats. Investigations later revealed that he had defrauded several others in a similar manner, with total misappropriated funds amounting to nearly Rs 1 crore.

Police sources said Sheikh lured victims by showing fabricated power of attorney documents, collected money, and then went into hiding.

Authorities suspected he was planning to flee abroad.

Upon his arrest, police recovered several items including a Yes Bank Venture Visa Infinite card, an IndusInd Titanium debit card, a Bank of India Platinum RuPay card, receipts from Mango Notified Area Committee, a Tata Motors temporary card, and a Motorola Android phone.

Officials confirmed that Sheikh has been involved in fraud cases earlier as well, with one registered at the Mango police station.
