KUMUD JENAMANI

Jamshedpur, September 9: Disruption in power supply across the state looms large as junior engineers in Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) are contemplating to resort to agitational path in protest against the non-compliance of their promotion by the power board.

The aggrieved junior engineers from across the state under the banner of Vidyut Diploma Abhiyanta Sangh (VDAS) met at the association’s office in Ranchi and deliberated over their demand which included compliance of the time-bound promotion and implementation of ‘Urja Bhatta.’

60 junior engineers not promoted yet

Revealing about the meeting, the VDAS general secretary Ajay Kumar said that over 60 junior engineers who were supposed to be promoted to the post of assistant engineers since long are languishing in the subordinate post due to the lackadaisical attitude of the JBVNL authority.

“The JBVNL authority should not take the implementation of the junior engineers’ promotion issue lightly. We may go on strike any time if the power board continues to overlook our legitimate demand and for this, the authority concerned will only be responsible, ” said Kumar while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The VDAS, which safeguards the interest of the junior engineers has also issued a press release in this context.

Demand for 6% ‘Urja Bhatta’

The other demand the VDAS members deliberated on was about payment of six per cent “Urja Bhatta” to all the JBVNL employees in the state.

While speaking on the Urja Bhatta issue, the VDAS general secretary said the Bihar electricity board has already implemented this allowance for the past three years, but the JBVNL is not paying heed to implement the same despite repeated reminders to the authority concerned.

“When the Bihar state electricity board can pay the Urja Bhatta, why not JBVNL? The fulfilment of this demand is equally important, ” said Kumar, adding that the sooner the power board concedes both demands the better otherwise the VDAS will be compelled to resort to stir.
