Ranchi, April 18: A jewellery shop owner was shot and injured by unidentified criminals on Friday afternoon in Chatakpur Bazaar, located under the Ratu police station area of Ranchi district.

The victim, identified as Basant Kumar, runs Aakash Jewellery in the local market. According to reports, two assailants arrived on a motorcycle around the afternoon.

One of them, the pillion rider, entered the shop and fired at Basant, hitting him in the left shoulder. The sudden gunfire caused panic in the area, and as locals began to gather, the attackers fled the scene at high speed.

Eyewitnesses stated that Basant was sitting inside his shop when the bike-borne criminals arrived. The gunshot alerted nearby residents, who tried to chase the attackers, but their bike’s speed helped them escape.
Locals immediately rushed the injured shopkeeper to City Hospital for treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after being informed and have launched an investigation into the incident.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, some locals suspect that the assailants’ intent was not robbery, but a targeted assault on Basant Kumar.
Authorities are now examining all possible angles to ascertain the reason behind the shooting.
