Jamshedpur, April 11: A life-size portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was unveiled in a dignified ceremony at the Bar Bhawan located within the District Civil Court premises.

The initiative, led by members of the legal fraternity, served both as a tribute to the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and as a call for greater recognition of India’s founding leaders across court institutions.

The portrait, placed in the ground floor hall of the Bar Bhawan, was inaugurated in the presence of senior advocates, Bar Association officials, and members of the Jharkhand State Bar Council.

Call for Statues of Constituent Assembly Leaders Across Courts

The event also marked the passing of a resolution recommending the installation of life-size statues of key figures from the Constituent Assembly—such as Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Sachchidanand Sinha, and Dr. Ambedkar himself—in courts across the nation.

The aim is to inspire present and future generations by highlighting the foundational contributions made by these visionaries in India’s freedom struggle and constitutional development.

Advocacy for Recognizing Tribal Leader Jaipal Singh Munda

Advocate and socialist thinker Sudhir Kumar Pappu emphasized the importance of acknowledging Jaipal Singh Munda, a prominent tribal leader and Constituent Assembly member, for his pivotal role in advocating for tribal rights. “His statue should be installed in selected district and sub-divisional courts of Jharkhand to honour his legacy,” he said.

Lawyers attending the ceremony highlighted the essential role played by Scheduled Castes and Tribes in promoting justice, equality, and women’s dignity in Indian society, recognizing Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy in these areas.

Felicitation Ceremony and Broad Participation by Legal Community

A special moment during the event was the felicitation of Sushant Namta Bhondu, a dedicated Bar Association office worker who has served for over 53 years. He was honoured with a garland and a shawl for his invaluable service to the legal community.

Also present were Ganesh Murmu, Malkit Singh Saini, Subramaniam Swamy, Anandu Mishra, Rajkumar Sharma, Ratan Chakraborty, and others, reflecting the broad participation of the legal community in this tribute.
