Daltonganj, May 7: The Medinirai Medical College at Pokhraha in Daltonganj has ‘peace of water’ today on Tuesday.
On Monday, around 400 medicos had boycotted their classes and labs in protest against the water and electricity crises on the campus.
The Medininagar Municipal Corporation played a proactive role. It dispatched two water tankers on Monday evening.
Dry zones in Daltonganj
City Commissioner Md Jawed Hussain is closely monitoring the services of the water tankers across the dry zones falling under the limits of the Medininagar Municipal Corporation. The medical college too comes under the dry zone almost.
30 water tankers
City manager Samita Bhagat told this correspondent that around 30 water tankers have been pressed in to cater to the needs of the residents in terms of water.
Samita Bhagat said our water services are all free. “Residents are free to have as much water as they can store but all that our city commissioner Md Jawed Hussain and every one of us in the municipal corporation here wish is that residents should not waste water at all,” she added.

City commissioner’s plea for not to waste water
She said, “I have noticed people do waste water which they can save. This is not any good. Wastage of water is no sign of any opulence rather it bespeaks to a lower sense of responsibility to the society.”
Samita Bhagat further said, “Under the municipal corporation limits there are 214 locations where we are reaching our water tankers.”
Water-starved wards
She said ward numbers 14, 16,18, 19, 21 etc are extremely water-starved wards and municipal corporation officials are keeping an eye on them. Here in these wards, the water crisis is very extreme.
Limited piped water supply
Medininagar municipal corporation limits have very limited access to piped water supply.
7,102 households here have water connections, she said, which means a large expanse of human households is still awaiting piped water supply.
Samita Bhagat has a point when she said, “People here construct posh buildings. Their buildings are smart and expensive. But do such people ever show concern and bother for rooftop water management?”
Rainwater harvesting
She referred to a private mall here near the head post office where the rainwater harvesting structure is of standard. Samita Bhagat said it’s a real rainwater harvesting structure.
Samita Bhagat alluded to one other individual’s effort to retain the rain rooftop water which she described as too good and worth doing at other locations too.
