Dhanbad, Oct 31: A state-of-the-art Molecular Microbiology Laboratory was inaugurated on Friday in the Department of Microbiology at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Principal Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Chourasia on the day of his retirement. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chourasia said the new laboratory marks a significant milestone for SNMMCH, giving the institution a distinct identity in the field of modern diagnostics and research.

He commended the faculty members and staff of the Department of Microbiology for their dedication and excellent work in establishing the facility.

The newly opened lab will facilitate advanced testing of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C viral load, thereby strengthening the hospital’s diagnostic infrastructure and enabling more accurate and timely detection of viral infections.
Developed under the supervision of Dr. Sujit Kumar Tiwary, Head of the Department of Microbiology, the laboratory is expected to contribute significantly to both clinical services and academic research at SNMMCH. Senior faculty members from various departments attended the inauguration ceremony.

The Department of Microbiology at SNMMCH has previously played a crucial role in testing COVID-19 samples from districts of the North Chotanagpur and Santhal Pargana divisions during the pandemic in 2020–21, showcasing its consistent contribution to public health and medical excellence.
