Daltonganj, April 8: Nilamber Pitamber University in Daltonganj is now to have its own electricity supply. It may take days but it is now no longer a mirage.

Past inaction leaves a lasting impact

This bold step taken by the present VC Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh in 2025 which ought to have been taken by the then VC Ram Lakhan Singh in 2023 as a due and routine course, was left as a bad legacy resulting in the shame and disrepute of this university when the JBVNL disconnected the electricity supply more than a week ago crippling and paralysing the entire work of the university, which the present VC Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh took it more as a liability left by his predecessor than any task of him or of the university.

However, the new VC Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh who assumed the office of the VC here only on March 3 had no idea of such a problem besetting this university as issue like electricity supply is a very mundane thing to be handled long ago in 2023 when the university had moved into its own building from its previous Zila Parishad Guest House in Daltonganj.

The then VC Ram Lakhan Singh just kept this electricity issue in limbo, price of which is now paid by the university hitting the headlines in the state of Jharkhand to be perhaps the first such university whose power supply was cut off by the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) for the unpaid bills.

The Nilamber Pitamber University made itself a laughing stock in the domain of higher education here just for the inaction of the VC then in 2023.

“I have ordered my finance section to send a sum of rupees 8.59 lakhs for a 200kv new service connection to the local JBVNL office here,” the VC said.

Till the new service of the HT connection materialises, the university is maintaining its power supply through its generator set.

Different sections of the university have been asked to rationalise the use of fans bulbs, coolers etc to save the generator set and power consumption as well.

Holding construction agency accountable

The VC agreed, “It’s a power emergency right now in the university. I am determined to take along with me the team to deliver.”

The executive engineer of electricity Santosh Kumar said, “We understand the hardships of the university when its power supply was cut off. It was all because of the user here the construction agency. The construction agency is to pay by all means the unpaid bills worth little over 11 lakhs of rupees.”
