Daltonganj, May 8: Nilamber Pitamber University is seriously mooting a plan to merge GLA College PG departments with the university PG departments.

Merger on the Cards Due to Staff Shortage

The expediency has arisen due to the extreme shortage of teachers both at the UG level and at the PG level here in this university.

At the maiden press conference held on Thursday, on the completion of 60 days plus in office here, the Vice Chancellor, Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh said, “There is no way out but to merge GLA College PG departments with the university PG departments as there are departments which are zero teacher departments.”

“We are constrained to take this option in the wake of the serious human resource crunch. Students seeking admission in PG courses will have no problem if merger is effected. Their academic interest will be well taken care of,” he assured.

To tide over the shortage of faculties the university is to toe the line of the UGC which calls for professor in practice. However VC said the professor in practices will not get any remuneration except for our profound gratitude to the services rendered by them.

Focus on Exam Cell Overhaul

The main focal point of the very first press briefing of the VC was ‘to fine tune in the exam cell which in all these 16 years or so have earned a bad name for delaying tactics and lingering students’ exams and results related issues.’

“I have identified persons who believe in not doing anything. For them, the exit door is wide open. There has been some mini ‘operation clean’ in the exam cell, but a lot more are to be done to make it pro active,” added the VC.

Five exams were conducted. 13 exams are in the pipeline. The university is determined to take all the exams in the pipeline by the end of June, the VC asserted. Everybody knows it’s a race against time.

“Let results be out in time, otherwise our NPU students will be denied admissions in higher or specific courses outside Jharkhand”, lamented the VC.

Treasury Delay Holding Back Payments

University’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Vineeta Dixit remained present in the press conference all through aiding and assisting the VC who had to struggle at the very outset while briefing on monetary benefits like arrears etc to the retired teachers and pensioners.

The VC conceded that payments of March and April are held up not at the level of the university but with the treasury. Once the issues of the treasury level are sorted out, payments would come swift and fast.

Modest Report Card Amid Challenges

Vineeta Dixit played the role of the PRO with dignity and affirmativeness. She was neither any interruptionist nor any diversion of issues.

VC was very modest and not any over enthusiast in presenting his report card of his 60 plus days in office. Sources said the 60 plus days for the VC were days of newer challenges more than opportunities.

A total of 910 degrees/ certificates were given away to the pass-outs who wanted them.

“Exams and results are our top of the top priority. Every week there will be now meeting of the issues of the exams so that the exam cell’s readiness and preparedness do not fail the university in times of crisis,” added the VC.

Attendance Woes and Blame Game

About bunking of classes by the students here VC reiterated, “This is a common phenomenon across the state here. Students blame teachers for skipping classes. Teachers accuse students of bunking classes. So it’s a blame game altogether.”

Dr Dinesh had a word of praise for the Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag of which he was until some few days back the VC in-charge where PG classes are quite a regular and consistent affair than what one finds here in the Nilamber Pitamber University.

Attendance Woes and Blame Game

VC’s displeasure was most evident while speaking about the DSW (Dean of Student Welfare) saying “The DSW never bothered to pace with the procedure of the registration on the Chancellor’s Portal. I know the DSW has genuine health issue, true, but when you hold the post, you are to show the deliverance,” reminded the VC.

He said, “If someone holding post finds the going tough then such a person is free to choose his path.”

“The master plan of this university is flawed. I understand it’s time to make necessary additions to it. There is no signage for outsiders or the locals to know where the university is located,” he rued.

Internal Assessment Policy Defended

A senior resident editor of a Hindi daily questioned the VC of the wisdom of giving 60 per cent marks in general in internal assessment, to which a cool and calm VC said, ” What is the harm? Do practical classes take place? Let there be just one RTI. And the university will be on the back foot. Hence, 60 per cent marks where the examinee has not made any enormous blunder. There is no harm.”

Administrative Reshuffle on the Horizon

‘Babus’ in the administrative office of the university will be shuffled in the coming few days, hinted the VC. A few rooted here in the university for 16 years may be sent to the colleges, is a most talked about thing here.
