THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, March 29: Palamu administration held its district peace committee meeting today when here in Daltonganj the Home Secretary Vandana Dadel had a longish review of the situation and preparedness of the administration for a slew of festivals of the Muslims, the Hindus and the tribals in quick successions in days to come.

The review meeting of the Home Secretary in fact delayed the start of the district peace committee meeting by two hours as DC and SP remained there in the Home Secretary meeting in Daltonganj today.

Addressing Communal Sensitivities and Procession Issues

The district peace committee meeting started quite sincerely aiming at making it an all-inclusive meeting of peace and communal harmony.

The administration today heard the Muslims and the Hindus in the meeting. It noted down their concerns. Later on, the administration gave a patient response to a myriad of issues.

Some highly sensitive issues were intelligently passed on without mediapersons jumping over it.

No one said a word as to how at inopportune time procession routes are diverted or the processionists stick to navigate the sensitive routes where places of worship fall.

Clashes occur where there is a diversion of route. And here in Palamu, there have been instances of diversion of routes by the processionists at some odd hours.

Mahavir Jhandas (flags) which dot the town before and on the day of Ramnavmi are left uncared once the Ramnavmi festival is over.

It is the same with the Muharram Jhandas that are left across the roads uncared and unattended. These Jhandas flutter in the air.

This has to be stopped forthwith this Ramnavmi festival. No Mahavir Jhanda should be so left uncared after the festival. It must be taken off, stated the SP Reeshma Ramesan. She said who among you people would take responsibility for any ‘occurence’ to the Jhandas?

DC Shashi Ranjan was quick enough to appreciate the stand of the SP who said, “Reeshma, you have raised a very pertinent point. Religious Jhandas should not be so left out after the festival. If found left out this time, municipal corporation personnel will collect them on their own.”

Licensing and Festival Celebrations

The issue of licence cropped up in the district peace committee meeting today when the chief of the Sri Mahavir Nav Yuvak Dal, Jugal Kishore, urged the administration to be liberal in the renewal of the licences whose authorised licensees have died and their kins want to hold it but find it hard to get the licence transferred or renewed.

DC Shashi Ranjan told the gathering, “We will evolve a mechanism wherein we will try to formulate SoP for it. This issue of licence will be sorted out.”

The chief of the Sri Mahavir Nav Yuvak Dal Jugal Kishore further suggested the administration that the police administration recently hosted a grand Iftaar party to the Muslims and so it’s in a fitness of thing if the administration hosts an identical feast for the Ram Bhakts.

DC Shashi Ranjan had not expected such a request coming from the chief of the Sri Mahavir Nav Yuvak Dal for a feast for the Ramnavmi faithfuls nevertheless he knew what he was to say and he said quite diplomatically, “Let Eid, Sarhul and Ramnavmi be over happily, we will have a Van Bhoj.”

Sarhul Festival and Emergency Preparedness

Amidst the two mass festivals Eid and Ramnavmi a lone tribal stood up for the Sarhul celebration saying the Sarhul celebration finds it hard to get Zila School ground and so the administration must intervene in it. DC Shashi Ranjan assured the tribal of Zila School ground for the Sarhul celebration.

SP Reeshma Ramesan asked for ambulance with drivers to be positioned to respond to emergencies without fail. Here DC Shashi Ranjan asked the Civil Surgeon to alert the roadside private hospitals to provide emergency health care without waiting for cash down then.

Municipal and Security Arrangements

City Commissioner Md Jawed Husaain too had his hands full when he assured of water tankers carrying 50,000 litres of water, mobile toilets, trimming branches overlapping electricity wires, positioning of three 25kvs generator sets and dust bins etc.

Jawed Husaain was smart enough to dove tail municipal corporation’s arrangements for Eid, Sarhul and Ramnavmi without making anyone feel that the municipal corporation is any interested or concerned in any one festival only. Jawed took all three celebrations together.

It’s for the first time that DC Shashi Ranjan believed the voices of the mediapersons be heard also. He first asked one electronic mediaperson to give his observations. He then switched to a popular print news journalist who saving his energy just said half a dozen words only.

DC’s Warning Against Misconduct

The Jharkhand Story correspondent was asked by the DC Shashi Ranjan to speak and here began the ground issues popping up like songs and slogans that hurt the sentiments of the people of other faith, non-adherence to the timeline, digital texts which are threatening and bullying in tone.

Once the media note was over, it was DC not looking back said, “If any digital content is found hurtful, be ready to face externment. If there is any aberration be prepared for the stringent action. You be limited to your district. What happens outside the district or here and there beyond our geo territory, let that episode not cast any shadow here. I tell you any misconduct will have serious repercussions. So enjoy your festival in the right spirit.”

There would be a Flag March all over the district of Palamu. Additional Collector Kundan Kumar has been made the nodal officer of the law and order.
