Daltonganj, August 6: Heads of the primary and upper primary government schools have been repeatedly advised to ensure growth of the students academically and physically both.

The state government is yet to send a detailed schedule for the mass health screening of the students.

Sources said in one such health screening, a government school student was found to be inflicted with pauci leprosy, which led to its treatment well in time.

The child had told his teacher of the loss of colour of a patch of his skin and a kind of reduced sensation of touch. The alert government school teacher at once lined up medical assistance for the child. This episode is of a government school in the northern part of Palamu.

District Superintendent of Education Emphasizes Regular Monitoring

In conversation with the Jharkhand Story correspondent on Wednesday District Superintendent of Education Sandeep Kumar said, “Our government schools have height and weight machines. It’s most expected that school officials must be putting their students to test height and weight to find out any deficiency.”

Sandeep Kumar agreed that such observations should be in the public domain for better health care. If any visible deficiency is noticed, then the nearest government health hub can be approached.

Schools’ officials may take the help of Swasthya Sahiya or the ANM in consultation with the parents first of all, he informed.

Nutritional Measures and Health Initiatives

Girls are given iron tablets. Green iron tablets are for mild deficiency of iron, while yellow iron tablets contain high-value iron.

Again, government schools’ students are put on de worming drive, making them aware of the need to contain worms, reminded the District Superintendent of Education.

On being asked if Ragi food supplements are being given to which the officer said, “We expect Ragi supplements to come in near future, as of now it’s off the plates of the mid-day meals.”

On health screening, which is due in the months to come, he said, “It will be done in all its sanctity and genuineness. There will be no perfunctoriness.”

Students’ eyesight, hearing ability and other features like teeth etc can be screened easily, for which the heads of the government’s schools have been given motivational training to go about it, opined Sandeep Kumar.
