Daltonganj, November 29: Snakes in winter! Herpetologists claim climate change does affect reptiles too, and so one should not be too sure that snakes are not around.
Mohan Mishra’s family had never thought a deadly snake to be present in the creek of the two plinths. The snake was there.
This highly venomous snake Russel Viper, was rescued from a human habitation at the village Bhargawan under the Chainpur police station limits in Palamu quite recently.
The venomous snake, around 4 feet long, was lying between the two plinths of the house of a farmer, Mohan Mishra.

A forester Rakesh Pandey told this correspondent, “A boy came to our range office, Chainpur, on Thursday, telling us nervously about an ajgar (python) in his house.”
“We rushed to the location only to find this most dangerous snake Russel Viper, whistling hiss sound and looking quite aggressive”, said Pandey.
It took two hours to retrieve the snake from the two plinths. Later, it was released into the Nawa jungles.
The retrieval of the snake was without causing any injury or harm to the snake.
Russell Viper in winter? Russell Viper comes to human household in search of rodents and so where there is rat, this deadly snake can’t be far behind, goes a saying in Palamu.

Cobra, Karait and Russell Viper cause utmost fatalities in Palamu, as this June and July month there were 6 snake bite fatalities, guessed to have been caused by any of these three venomous snakes, said an MMCH staff.
People are sparing snakes now as otherwise two decades ago, when snakes were found, they were ruthlessly either stoned to death or pierced to death. Killing a snake was seen as a sign of bravery and the killer was the most wanted man in the locality if any snake was discovered then.
