Ranchi, Sept 16: Doctors in Sahibganj have initiated a protest by wearing black badges against an FIR filed by the district administration. They have announced plans to boycott outpatient departments (OPD) on September 18 if the FIR is not withdrawn.

Protest decision and actions

Dr. Mohan Paswan stated that the decision to protest was made during a joint meeting of the JHSA and the IMA Sahibganj district chapter held on Sunday evening.

“Since doctors are not at fault, it was unanimously decided to work for two days (September 16-17) under protest and boycott the OPD if the FIR is not withdrawn,” he said.

Dr Bharti Kumari, Dr Kiran Mala, Dr Alim Uddin, Dr F Hussan, Dr Shahnawaz, Dr Mahmood Alam, Dr Khalique Ansari, Dr Keshav Krishna, Dr Ranvijay Kumar, DrMohan Murmu, Dr Kumar and others were present at the meeting.

Demands and allegations

During the protest, doctors at Sadar Hospital, CHC, PHC, and other health centers in Sahibganj wore black badges to show their dissent.

The protesting doctors argue that the FIR lodged by the district administration is incorrect and contradicts the Supreme Court rulings.

According to the SC ruling, only expert doctors can determine negligence in patient treatment. The agitating doctors said that the district administration has declared the doctors guilty based on a non-technical committee report.

The JHSA and IMA joint committee also called for the immediate payment of salaries that have been withheld due to the incident.

Doctors call for removal of DDC

They demanded that the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC), who is the nodal officer of the hospital, be held accountable and removed from his position, as he is deemed equally responsible for the death of a six-year-old child.

The protestors also requested the deployment of ex-servicemen at Sadar Hospital and CHC.

Former IMA Jamshedpur chapter Secretary Dr. Mritunjay Kumar Singh condemned the FIR against the Sahibganj doctors, warning that if coercive actions by the district administration continue, doctors across the state may not remain passive for long.
