Jharkhand News: Sand mafias attack mining inspectors in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Dec 19: The members of the sand mafia syndicate on Thursday morning attacked mining inspectors and took away two sand-loaded seized tractors from their possession on Baliapur road near Balaji Petrol Pump, around 6 km away from district headquarters.

The police have lodged a named FIR against four persons on the directive of the Deputy Commissioner.

An official said the incident occurred at around 10 am. On the directive of District Mining Officer (DMO) Ritesh Raj Tigga, the Task Force team was carrying out a campaign against illegal sand mining and transporting.

The Task Force team seized sand-loaded tractors without Chalan near the Balaqlji Petrol Pump. As mining inspectors Vijay Karmali and Sumit Prasad began the seizure process, all of sudden, 8 to 10 sand mafia members laced with lathi, sharp weapons and iron rods reached there and attacked them.

Sand mafia members snatched their mobile phones and laptops and took away sand loaded tractors. Task Force, security personnel looked helpless before them.

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra took serious note of the incident and directed the mining department to lodge an FIR against them.

Based on local people’s information, four assaulters were identified: Rajendra Singh (Kolakusma), Asim Mandal alias Chikoo (Nirsa), Rakesh Mandal alias Prakash Mandal and Rahul Singh (Govindpur).

The District Mining Department has lodged an FIR at the Saraidhela police station.

Earlier in the morning, the Task Force team seized sand-loaded four Tata 407s near the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) office and handed over to Dhanbad Sadar police station.
