Dhanbad, Dec 31: Dr. Makradhwaj Prasad, one of the senior-most professors and the Head of the Anatomy Department at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, retired today after 28 years of distinguished service.

Farewell Ceremony Honours Dr. Prasad’s Contributions

A grand farewell ceremony was held on Tuesday in the college’s conference hall to honour Dr. Prasad’s 28 years of exemplary service. The event was attended by Principal Dr. KK Lal, Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Chourasia, and heads of various departments. These included Orthopaedics HoD Prof. (Dr.) DP Bhushan, Medicine HoD Prof. (Dr.) UK Ojha, Biochemistry HoD Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Kumar Verma, ENT Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Kumar, Paediatrics HoD Dr. Avinash Kumar, and Dental Department HoD Dr. Animesh Shivan.

The dignitaries shared fond memories of working with Dr. Prasad and lauded his immense contributions to the institution and its students.

Several senior faculty members, including Dr. LB Tudu, Dr. BK Pandey (HoD Blood Bank), Dr. Piyush Sengar (HoD Anaesthesia), Dr. Phani Bhushan Singh (HoD Physiology), Dr. UN Verma, Dr. Abdul Jabbar Ansari, Dr. Ganesh Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. CS Suman, Dr. Akash Chandra, and Dr. Rohit Prasad Karan, also expressed their heartfelt tributes.

They commended Dr. Prasad’s outstanding commitment to teaching and administration, emphasizing the enduring legacy he leaves behind after nearly three decades of service.

Dr. Sarita Choudhary, the newly appointed Head of the Anatomy Department, conducted the farewell ceremony. In her address, she described Dr. Prasad as a beloved teacher and a moral guide for his colleagues. “He upheld high moral standards and led the department as a true guardian,” she remarked.

Dr. Prasad’s Illustrious Career

Dr. Prasad began his career at the then Patliputra Medical College Hospital (now SNMMCH) in 1998. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, becoming an Assistant Professor in 2001, an Associate Professor in 2009, and finally a full Professor in 2013.

A graduate of Rajendra Medical College Hospital, Ranchi (now RIMS), Dr. Prasad completed his MBBS in 1985. He earned a Diploma in Anesthesia from Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) in 1989 and an MS in Anatomy in 1994, laying a strong foundation for his academic and professional achievements.

A Family Affair

Dr. Prasad’s family—his wife Suman Prasad, son Dr. Abhijit Suman, and daughter Dr. Ankita Suman—attended the farewell ceremony, adding a personal touch to the occasion. The presence of his loved ones highlighted the balance he maintained between his professional and personal life, further endearing him to the SNMMCH community.

A Fond Farewell

The SNMMCH fraternity bid an emotional farewell to Dr. Makradhwaj Prasad, celebrating his dedication, integrity, and invaluable contributions to the medical college. His legacy as a mentor, administrator, and role model will undoubtedly inspire future generations.
