Dhanbad, July 5: Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital on Friday held its first health camp under the National Medical Commission (NMC)’s Family Adoption Curriculum at remote Bagsuma village under Govindpur block, around 18 km away from the institution.
The health camp was organized by 2022 MBBS batch students under the supervision of the Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) department which senior doctors and faculty members of the college attended.

As per the new curriculum of NMC Family Adoption, each student of the new MBBS batch has to adopt three to five families and their children of a village for health care and monitor their health till the education period. A batch of 2022 has selected Bagsuma Panchayat while the 2023 batch has selected Damodarpur Panchayat.

200 villagers screened
PSM HoD Dr Ravi Ranjan Jha said that in four and half hours of camp, more than 200 villagers, including males, females and children were checked up and duly given medicines as per requirement.
Since the medical college had held the 1st health camp under the NMC curriculum, senior faculty members and doctors of different departments including Prof ( Dr) UK Ojha, Dr Abhishek Kumar ( medicine department), Prof ( Dr) Rajlaxmi Tubitt, Dr Prami (Gynaecology), Dr Avinash Kumar HoD ( paediatrics department), Dr Jitendra Kumar and Dr Amit Kumar ( surgery department), Dr Raviranjan Jha HoD, Dr RK Rana, Dr Ravi Bhushan, Dr P Singh and Dr Arun Kumar ( PSM department) were present and attended villagers.
“We felt it was our responsibility to make it a success as it was the first Family Adoption programme under the NMC curriculum of the college. So, besides the PSM, doctors from different departments joined the camp and attended the villagers,” said Prof (Dr) UK Ojha of the medicine department.
The coordinator of the programme, Dr Raviranjan Jha, (PSM HoD) said that it was a successful camp and we tried to maximise the numbers of villagers who appeared for treatment.

Kasturba School students also were screened
“Besides villagers, we also screened and treated girls of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School Bagsuma students who appeared at the camp and provided medicines to them as per their requirement,” said Dr Jha.
