Daltonganj, August 11: Four minors, including girls, were hurt when a speeding car hit them in the new parking area of the Daltonganj railway station last night.

All four minors were rushed to the MMCH Daltonganj. Barring one, all three are stable, said the MMCH sources.

Railway sources said these four had their parents too, who all have come to Daltonganj by train from Haidernagar to visit the Disneyland Mela ground.

The elders with the four were temporarily away from them, perhaps to ease themselves, when in the meantime came a speedy car hitting all four in the new parking area of the Daltonganj railway station.

Public Outrage and Swift Police Response

The incident led to a great hue and cry, and soon a mob of people gathered there.

The man at the steering of the car was thrashed. GRP and RPF were the first to rush to site and saved the man at the steering from public outrage as any worst thing could have happened to him.

It was not known whether the owner was driving the car or his driver, and hence it’s the man at the steering till the identity of the man is confirmed by the police.

Town police too swung into action and with the help of the GRP, detained the man at the steering wheel and the car was seized.

Drunken Driving Confirmed

Speaking to this correspondent, the officer in charge of the town police station, Jyoti Lal Rajwar, said the man at the steering was put to a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) test and he was found to have too high a percentage of alcohol content in his blood.

It was a drunken driving case outright said the police officer. The amended Motor Vehicles Act 2019 has a minimum fine of rupees 10,000 for drunken driving or imprisonment if it’s the first offence. A repeat offence finds a rise in the quantum of the fine and imprisonment both.

Similarly, for the release of the seized car, several documents are to be produced like details of ownership, insurance papers, anti-pollution certificate, driving license, etc.
