Dhanbad, April 30: In a strict enforcement drive, the Dhanbad Transport Department penalized 44 school buses and vans for violating Supreme Court-mandated safety guidelines, imposing fines totaling ₹1.45 lakh.
Acting on the directions of District Transport Officer (DTO) Diwakar C. Dwivedi, a special inspection team carried out checks on school vehicles inside the DAV Public School, Koyla Nagar campus. The department issued challans to five school buses and 39 private vans engaged in transporting students.

Officials reported that of the 11 school buses inspected, five were found in violation of safety norms, resulting in fines amounting to ₹30,000. The 39 vans also failed to comply with safety standards and were fined ₹1.15 lakh on the spot.

As part of the awareness initiative, transport department officials also conducted an interaction session with students, teachers, and drivers to highlight the importance of road safety. Informational pamphlets were distributed during the session.

The inspection team included Motor Vehicles Inspectors Shubham Kumar and Harish Kumar, District Road Safety Manager Sunil Kumar, Road Engineer Analyst Amresh Kumar, and IT Assistant Devendra Kumar.
