Dhanbad, Dec 13: Dhanbad police apprehended two cybercriminals of Bengaluru, Karnataka, and another fraudster from Nalanda, Bihar, during a raid conducted at an apartment in Sahyogi Nagar under the Saraidhela police station area. The operation, carried out this afternoon, was executed on the directive of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HP Janardhan.

Cyber Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sanjiv Kumar informed the media about the arrests, marking the first instance of cybercriminals from other states being apprehended in Jharkhand for operating fraudulent activities.

Identities and modus operandi of the accused

The arrested individuals were identified as Bharath and Basanth of Bengaluru, who are believed to be the masterminds of the syndicate, and Sonu Paswan of Nalanda.

Bharath and Basanth, proficient in multiple languages, including English, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, played a pivotal role in orchestrating the scams.

Police recovered 10 mobile phones and several SIM cards from their rented apartment. The suspects had been defrauding people under the pretext of arranging online loans, charging exorbitant processing fees in the process.

Investigation underway

Cyber DSP Sanjiv Kumar stated that the arrested individuals are being interrogated to determine the duration of their operations in Dhanbad and their involvement in other cheating cases. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of their fraudulent activities and the network’s reach.

The arrests signify a significant step in Jharkhand’s efforts to curb cybercrime and hold perpetrators accountable.
