Jamshedpur, April 20: In a significant breakthrough, the police and paramilitary forces on Friday arrested two rebels of the outlawed outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) with as many AK 47 rifles from Goelkera thana area in West Singhbhum about 120 km away from here.
Apart from the two sophisticated assault rifles, the police and paramilitary forces recovered three magazines and 88 live cartridges from the arrested rebels besides a motorcycle and Rs 50,000.
Intelligence input about PLFI squad
Revealing about the breakthrough, the West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar said that on Friday afternoon they got intelligence input about an armed PLFI squad moving around in Goelkera and the adjoining Anandpur thana area.

“We had information that the armed PLFI squad led by area commander Soma Hembram alias Nazom was trying to collect levy from the government agencies engaged in developmental projects in Goelkera and Anandpur thana areas. Soon after, a special team was set up comprising of police and CRPF Battalion 57. The team ultimately succeeded in rebels,” said Ashutosh Shekhar while addressing a press conference at Chaibasa on Saturday.
Were collecting levies by intimidating contractors
The senior police officer pointed out that the PLFI rebels were collecting levies by intimidating the contractors at various places where developmental projects are being done in the Goelkera and Anandpur thana areas.
“The two armed rebels were nabbed on being surrounded by the police and paramilitary forces at Chitir hills after hours-long search operation under Goelkera thana area,” said the senior police officer.
The SP pointed out that during the operation, the police and paramilitary forces recovered Rs 50,000 from the possession of the two arrested persons who were identified as Soma Hembram alias Nazom and Birsa Khandayat.
