Daltonganj, May 26: The examination, evaluation, and declaration of results for the sixth and final semester of undergraduate (UG) courses at Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) have become a major challenge for the university administration.

Since the results of this final semester determine admission into the first year of postgraduate (PG) or master’s degree programs, the prolonged delay has severely impacted the 2024-25 academic session for these courses. As of now, no admissions or classes have commenced for the PG first year.

Exams Underway, But Evaluation Bottlenecks Loom
The sixth semester exams, which began on May 20 and will conclude on May 28, are being conducted smoothly across 17 exam centers. However, the critical bottleneck lies ahead — the coding of OMR sheets, evaluation, and publication of results.
According to the university’s PRO Vineeta Dixit, summer vacations in colleges are scheduled from June 1 to 20, creating added pressure as many teachers involved in evaluations are likely to be unavailable during this period due to travel plans.
Simultaneously, the university is also managing the coding and evaluation of second and third semester UG exams, adding to the workload. OSD Exams Dr. Gaurav Srivastav informed Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr. Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh about ongoing preparations and urged for acceleration. The coding work is outsourced, and the VC has directed the agency to increase manpower to speed up the evaluation process.

VC Prioritises Sixth Semester to Save PG Admissions
Dr. Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh emphasized the utmost priority of evaluating and releasing the sixth semester results, even if it means further delays for the second and third semester results. He stressed that the fate of admissions into the PG programs for 2024-25 hinges entirely on timely results of the final UG semester.
“There must be a war footing for the evaluation of the sixth semester exams. We are already late for PG admissions and subsequent academic activities,” the VC stated firmly.

Officials Caught Between Two Priorities
Meanwhile, Dr. Ajit Seth, Controller In-charge of university exams, and OSD Dr. Gaurav Srivastav find themselves in a difficult position. Dr. Srivastav cautioned that further postponing the evaluation of the second and third semesters could create academic complications, but the VC remains resolute on prioritizing the final semester results.
Sources indicate that a delayed academic calendar has led to this challenging situation, forcing the university to juggle between the urgent need to release final semester results and managing backlogs from earlier semesters.
The entire university team — from PRO Vineeta Dixit, Controller Dr. Ajit Seth, OSD Dr. Gaurav Srivastav, to the outsourcing agency — is under immense pressure to expedite the evaluation process and save the PG admissions from further delays, especially with summer vacations fast approaching.
