Daltonganj, Dec 25: This morning, a hot axle issue was reported on line number 3 at Mohammadganj railway station, which is part of the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya railway division.
A “hot axle” is a railway phenomenon where the axle bearings of a train’s wheels overheat abnormally. This overheating can cause the bearings to jam, resulting in fire and smoke.
In this case, a coal-loaded wagon—the 7th from the engine of a long-haul goods train—experienced a hot axle issue at approximately 6:29 AM.

The affected wagon was promptly detached from the train, while the remaining wagons, comprising a total of 57+58 units, departed from Mohammadganj station at 8:40 AM to continue their journey.
No disruptions to other railway traffic were reported during the incident.
According to sources, hot axle problems often occur due to poor maintenance of axle bearings, which may also fail under heavy loads.
The team at Mohammadganj railway station acted swiftly to contain and extinguish the fire and smoke caused by the overheating.
