XITE College hosts gender sensitisation session

Jamshedpur, Jan 31:  The Gamharia-based Xavier Institute for Tribal Education (XITE), an autonomous institute today took a step towards fostering inclusivity and understanding by organizing a gender sensitisation session titled “Understanding Third Gender”.

This impactful session, supported by the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell, aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community and to encourage respect for diversity.

The event saw an inspiring lineup of speakers, including Shadvi Amarjeet Singh Sakhi (Founder and Secretary), Mahant Himanshi Padhan, Arpit Pandey (President, The Humsafar Trust, Mumbai).

The experts shared their insights on topics ranging from understanding gender binaries to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

The session was enabled by The Humsafar Trust, India’s first community-based organization advocating for the health and human rights of LGBTQ+ communities, and Utthan CBO, which champions third-gender rights.

Prominent attendees included Dr. (Fr.) Mukti Clarence, S.J., Vice Principal, Assist. Prof. Sushmita Chowdhury Sen, Assist. Prof.  Swati Singh, Assist. Prof. Reetika Singh, Assist. Prof. Anjali Jha, Assist. Prof. Nidhi Kumari and Ashish Singh, Head, Branding & Communication.

The session highlighted the importance of breaking biases, understanding the concept of pronouns, and embracing allyship. It also explored the legal journey of LGBTQ+ rights in India, including landmark judgments such as the Navtej Singh Johar case and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

XITE Gamharia stands apart as an institution that not only emphasizes academic excellence but also integrates human values into its ethos.

The event exemplifies XITE’s commitment to nurturing socially conscious and empathetic individuals who respect and value diversity.
