Jamshedpur, Oct 4: Quarrel over a smartphone involving a love affair led a youth to launch a fatal attack on his blossom friend at the densely-populated Shaldih Bustee under Adityapur thana area late last night.
The victim Pankaj Majhi who was critically injured was rushed to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.
Victim stabbed and shot
The assailant identified as Krishna Gope along with his two associates had first stabbed the victim and had subsequently shot him in the head, causing him to sustain fatal injuries.

The incident took place behind the showroom of National Electronics in Shaldih Bustee at about 10.30 pm while Pankaj Majhi was riding back home on his bike from Bistupur.
The murder victim’s sister Anjali revealed before the police that two days ago her brother had a quarrel with Krishna Gope over a smartphone and that might have been the reason behind the murder.

Accused absconding
Following the clue, the police started investigating the case and succeeded in unravelling the mystery behind the murder.
Adityapur thana OC, Rajiv Kumar Singh had swung into action soon after the ghastly incident took place and by Friday noon he succeeded in detecting the case though none of the accused could be arrested as they all are absconding.
The OC said both Pankaj and Krishna had criminal records but used to have friendship like Jai and Veeru in the blockbuster Sholay had.
Victim breaking accused’s smartphone led to murder
“Pankaj had a girlfriend with whom the relationship had turned suddenly sour over something. As the victim would share everything with Krishna about his love affairs and would take help whenever necessary, Pankaj had asked him to scold on his behalf and not to try to contact him anymore. Krishna had done what had been asked for two days ago. But when Krishna let Pankaj know what transpired between him and the latter’s girlfriend, Pankaj suddenly got extremely angry and slammed his (Krishna’s) smartphone on the ground,” said the police officer while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
According to the OC, the murder victim later apologized and told Krishna that he broke up the smartphone in a fiat of rage and offered Rs 10,000 to him for buying a new one.
“But it was too late. Krishna has purportedly threatened Pankaj with dire consequences as he was subjected to humiliation in front of several others. This was the apparent reason behind Krishna taking avenge of his insult by conspiring the murder of his friend, ” said Rajiv Kumar Singh, adding that attempts to arrest the accused are on.
