Dhanbad, May 22: Eminent physician from Deoghar, Dr Gauri Shankar, has been elected as a member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) National Standing Committee for the Patient’s Charter Protection Cell for the term 2025–26.

Sharing the information, Dr D. Tiwari, National Vice-President of the IMA headquarters in Delhi, said that IMA National President Dr Dilip Bhanushali has reconstituted the committee, and Dr Gauri Shankar has been chosen as one of its members representing Jharkhand.

Committee Includes Members from 11 States
Dr Tiwari informed that along with Chairman Dr Anil Agrawal, Vice-Chairman Dr Manshukhlal R. Kamanni, and Convener Dr Bhagwant Singh, 11 members from 11 different states have been selected to be part of the Cell. Dr Sanjay Kumar Nirala from Bihar has also been included.
“The nomination of Dr Gauri Shankar to the IMA’s national committee is a matter of pride for Deoghar as well as Jharkhand. We hope he will contribute meaningfully to the protection of patients’ rights,” said Dr Tiwari.
Known for COVID-19 Service and Medical Welfare
Dr Gauri Shankar gained national recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, when he and his team of private doctors actively treated patients, risking their own lives.

Apart from patient care, he has also been actively involved in the implementation of IMA programmes and in the welfare of medical professionals in the state.

Dr Gauri Shankar currently serves as the Secretary of the Deoghar chapter of IMA and is also the Joint Secretary of the state unit of the Academy of Medical Specialists (AMS). He has been associated with the IMA since 2010 and has since become a key figure in the organisation’s state unit.

IMA State Coordinator and former National Vice-President Dr Ajoy Kumar Singh (Ranchi) congratulated Dr Gauri Shankar and called it a proud achievement for the state. “This is a significant recognition for Jharkhand. I extend my best wishes to Dr Gauri Shankar on his new responsibility,” he said.
