Dhanbad, Nov 20: Teachers of the state’s universities have hailed the appointment of a senior faculty member, Prof Rajendra Bharti, as the Registrar of Kolhan University (KU) Chaibasa by the Raj Bhawan and expressed hope that long pending issues of lecturers would be solved.

Prof Rajendra Bharti was appointed as the Registrar of Kolhan University in place of Dr Jayant Shekhar whose term as registrar ended on Sunday. On the directive of acting vice-chancellor cum Kolhaln Division Commissioner Manoj Kumar, Prof Bharti took charge on Sunday.

Associate Professor Dr Bharti is one of the senior faculty members of the 1996 batch.

Dr Bharti has been the president of the Kolhan University Teachers Association(KUTA) since 2021 and resigned after assuming the office of Registrar. He was the general secretary of KUTA from 2012 to 2021.

“My priority will be on three points- clearing blockade of teachers’ promotion, solving issues of  Assured Career Progression (ACP)  and Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) benefits to teachers and the problem of students”, said Dr Bharti.

The outgoing president of the Federation of Universities Teachers Association of Jharkhand (FUTAJ), Dr NK Singh, welcomed the decision of the Raj Bhawan and said that the appointment of Dr Bharti as registrar will prove beneficial for teachers as well as the university.

“Since he had been associated with the teachers’ organization, he knows their problems very closely. We hope he will solve it on a priority basis,” said the FUTAJ president.

Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Teachers Association general secretary Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary and Dr BN Singh have also welcomed the step of Raj Bhawan.

Dr Choudhary said the appointment of Dr Bharti as registrar is good news but it is a loss to the teachers’ organization as he was one of the pillars. “However, we hope he will work as a bridge between the university administration and teachers in running the institution,” he said.

Dr BN Singh said that it is good news that a member of the faculty has become registrar. “We hope he will work in the interest of teachers and the university,” he said.

Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) Dumka Teachers’ Association secretary Dr Santosh Sil has also hailed the appointment of Dr Bharti as registrar.

Senior teachers of Kolhan University on Sunday greeted Dr Bharti in the chamber.
