SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Feb 4: Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that Jharkhand will take control of closed coal mines in the state to promote regional development.

Addressing the 53rd Foundation Day of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) at the historic Golf Ground in Dhanbad, Soren criticized the central government for handing over closed coal mines to private entities. He asserted that Jharkhand would not allow this at any cost.

“Water, land, and forests belong to the people. We will reclaim closed coal mines where mining operations have concluded. If necessary, we will introduce new laws to regain control over these lands,” said the JMM leader.

JMM’s First Daylight Celebration of Foundation Day

This was the first time JMM celebrated its foundation day during the daytime. The party, founded in 1973 by Shibu Soren, Binod Bihari Mahto, and A.K. Roy, traditionally held foundation day celebrations at night, except during the COVID-19 period.

Soren emphasized that the state’s progress depends on the development of its villages, and the well-being of villagers is crucial for Jharkhand’s growth. To empower women and promote self-reliance, the state government has launched several welfare schemes, including the Maiyya Samman Yojana.

Jharkhand’s Welfare Scheme Becomes a National Model

Highlighting the success of the Maiyya Samman Yojana, Soren stated that the scheme has become a model for other states. He noted that the BJP had included it in its campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections, and similar announcements were being made in Bihar.

Expressing disappointment with the Union Budget, Soren remarked that Jharkhand had high expectations but received nothing. “The central government does not talk about grants to states but instead imposes and increases taxes,” he said.

Support for Sahara Scam Victims

Soren assured assistance to victims of the Sahara Company scam, stating that the state government would help them recover their money and provide legal aid if necessary.

Kalpana Soren Praises Hemant Soren’s Leadership

Gandey MLA Kalpana Soren, wife of the Chief Minister, addressed the JMM foundation day function in Dhanbad for the first time. She praised Hemant Soren for implementing numerous welfare schemes for the state’s people.

Criticizing the central government, Kalpana Soren alleged that it does not work for the people but takes action against state leaders who introduce beneficial schemes. “The Enforcement Directorate (ED) jailed Hemant Soren because he launched several welfare programs for tribals and the poor,” she claimed.

She further stated, “Jharkhand will progress only under the leadership of Hemant Soren. The dream of a developed Jharkhand envisioned by Shibu Soren will be fulfilled.”
