Jamshedpur, July 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh heavy rain alert for several districts of Jharkhand as a well-marked depression over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha continues to move west-northwestwards across the state.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Hazaribagh, Chatra, Latehar and Palamu on Monday. Heavy rainfall is also expected over Gumla, Lohardaga, Garhwa, Khunti, Ranchi, Ramgarh and Koderma during the next 24 hours.
The weather office has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places across Jharkhand.
According to IMD officials, the depression was centred over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha on Monday morning and is likely to move across Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
“The weather system, supported by an active monsoon trough and a persistent shear zone, is expected to keep rainfall activity vigorous across the region,” IMD officials said.
Heavy rain likely in Dhanbad and north-eastern Jharkhand
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over the north-eastern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand, including Dhanbad, on July 7. Isolated heavy showers are also expected over the north-eastern districts on July 8.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to continue across the state until July 10.
Monsoon rainfall deficit narrows in Jharkhand
The ongoing spell of widespread rain has brought significant relief to Jharkhand’s monsoon situation.
According to meteorologists, the state’s seasonal rainfall deficit has narrowed to 42 per cent from 54 per cent recorded five days ago, reflecting a marked improvement following the recent widespread showers.
“If the current wet spell continues over the coming days, the rainfall deficit is likely to reduce further,” meteorologists said.
