Following her death, tensions escalated on campus as Nepalese students protesting the incident were assaulted and forcibly evicted.

The case sparked nationwide outrage and led to intervention by Nepal’s Prime Minister.
In response, the NHRC dispatched a team for an on-the-spot investigation and, on March 27, uploaded the case status on its website.
The commission has now sought an action-taken report from the Odisha government, directing the chief secretary, Khurda district collector, commissioner of police, and the chairpersons of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to submit their findings within four weeks.
