Jamshedpur, Nov 3: NIT Jamshedpur Director Goutam Sutradhar got back his diamond ring about 10 days after he had lost it at the IIT Kharagpur Kolkata Extension Centre guest-house.

A four-member team of the IIT Kharagpur Kolkata Extension Centre today came to NIT Jamshedpur and handed over the diamond ring to the Director, bringing a smile on the latter’s face.

Prof Sutradhar had an emotional attachment to the diamond ring, as he had been wearing it for the past 22 years.

Revealing about the episode, Prof Sunil Kumar Bhagat of the NIT, Jamshedpur, while talking to the media, said that the loss of the diamond ring was undoubtedly a misfortune, but finding the lost ring is definitely an example of honesty and integrity of the premier technical institution.

Prof Bhagat said that director Sutradhar had gone to the IIT Kharagpur Kolkata Extension Centre on an official visit last month and had stayed in a guest house of the Centre for two days.

“Incidentally, the director had lost the ring somewhere in the guest house or at some other place, but realised it after he returned to Jamshedpur. He had immediately informed the guest house in-charge and the IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty about the lost ring. Getting the information, the security as well as the room maintenance staff of the guest house started searching for the ring and finally got it,” Prof Bhagat said.

He stated that the ring was lying at the corner of a room in the guest house where director Sutradhar had stayed, adding that the same room had not been allocated to anyone else during the period of last 10 days.
