Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also serves as the state’s finance minister, unveiled a ₹2.90 lakh crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal, emphasizing agriculture and irrigation.

This marks the first full-fledged budget of the BJP government since coming to power last year.

Highlighting the significance of agriculture, Majhi noted that nearly 48% of Odisha’s workforce relies on farming, with 80% of the population residing in rural areas. In response, the government has allocated ₹37,838 crore for the agricultural and allied sectors, reflecting a nearly 12% increase from previous allocations.

The budget includes ₹2,020 crore for the ‘CM Kisan Yojana’ and ₹600 crore for the ‘Shree Anna Abhiyan’ to promote millet cultivation.

Additionally, ₹164 crore has been earmarked for the ‘Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana’ to enhance milk production and support farmers’ livelihoods.

In his budget speech, Majhi also proposed several new initiatives to improve irrigation facilities across the state.

This budget follows the interim ₹2.65 lakh crore budget he had presented for the 2024-25 fiscal in July last year.
